EMIRATES is converting ten Boeing 777-300ERs in Preighters by removing the 305 economy class seats to allow them to transport cargo in their cabin. The airline estimates that this will allow it to increase its cargo capacity by 17 tonnes per aircraft (in addition to 40 to 50 tonnes in the hold). The work is carried out by EMIRATES Engineering in Dubai, each aircraft requiring 640 hours of work. Seven aircraft have been modified, the other three to be ready by mid-July. |
